JNV Result 2026 — Complete Guide to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test
The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2026 is conducted by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is one of India's largest and most competitive school entrance examinations, with over 28 lakh students competing annually for approximately 45,000 seats across 650+ Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) spread across 28 states and 8 union territories.
The primary objective of the JNVST is to identify talented children — especially from rural backgrounds — and provide them with quality residential education completely free of cost, including meals, boarding, uniforms, textbooks, and stationery. This initiative by the Government of India has transformed millions of lives since the first JNV opened in 1986.
The JNV Result 2026 for Class 6 is declared on the official NVS portal at navodaya.gov.in and cbseitms.nic.in. Candidates can check their selection status by entering their Roll Number, Date of Birth, and District details. Results are published both as a district-wise merit list and by individual roll number.
In addition to Class 6, the JNVST Class 9 Lateral Entry result 2026 gives another opportunity to students who could not get selected in Class 6. This lateral admission program is designed for Class 8 students who want to join JNV directly in Class 9, provided seats are available in the respective Navodaya Vidyalaya.
Key Features of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV)
- 100% Free Residential Education: Tuition, food, hostel, uniform, books, and stationery — completely free from Class 6 to Class 12 for all selected students.
- CBSE Affiliated: All 650+ JNVs are affiliated to CBSE, ensuring a standardized, nationally recognized curriculum and board examinations.
- 75% Rural Reservation: At least 75% of seats in each district's JNV are reserved for students studying in rural area schools, ensuring equity in education.
- SC/ST/OBC Reservation: Seats are reserved as per central government reservation norms for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Class candidates.
- One School Per District: Every district in India has at least one JNV, making it accessible to students from every corner of the country.

- Exceptional Academic Track Record: JNV students consistently achieve 97–99% pass percentage in CBSE Class 10 and 12 board examinations, well above the national average.
- Language Medium: The JNVST is conducted in the student's regional/mother tongue medium, making it accessible to students from all linguistic backgrounds.

Factors That Determine JNVST Cutoff 2026
- Number of Applicants Per District: Higher applicant volume = higher cutoffs. Bihar, UP, and Rajasthan see the most competition.
- Paper Difficulty Level: An easier paper means more high scorers, pushing the cutoff up. A harder paper brings it down.
- Total Seats Available: Each JNV admits ~80 students in Class 6. Fewer seats + more applicants = higher cutoffs.
- Category Reservations: SC/ST/OBC categories have lower cutoff thresholds due to government reservation policies.
- Rural vs Urban Quota: 75% of seats go to rural students; the remaining 25% to urban students, each with separate cutoffs.
- District-wise Variation: Even within the same state, different districts can have significantly different cutoffs based on competition.
